A Discussion on the Laws and Legislation affecting Gay,
Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) families
Schedule: 2:00-2:30 p.m. Brief remarks about each topic
2:30-4:00 p.m. Town Hall

Contact: Michael Thurber Ph. 310-821-1490

The 2000 census revealed that same-sex couples live in 99.3% of all counties in America. There also have been reports of a rise in gay and lesbian parenting since the early 1990s. Yet the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and its allies have found that although same-sex families are a growing and ever-present part of the social fabric of this nation, they are not treated like all other families under law.
But there is good news! Thanks to the fair-minded actions of judges and state legislators nationwide, there has been an increase in rights, protections, and responsibilities for the GLBT families, even as the anti-gay forces have attempted to tear them down.

Come join our host – Betty DeGeneres (yes, Ellen’s mom), HRC, and its partners on October 5, 2002 at DeNeve Hall on the UCLA campus in Westwood at 2:00 p.m. to learn of your rights and how we all can enhance Our Families.
Topics and discussion panels include:
· Domestic Partnerships, Civil Unions, and Marriage
· Parenting (includes adoption, surrogacy, 2nd parent adoption, foster parenting, custody & visitation)
· Same-sex, bi-national immigration
· Family Finances (social security benefits, inheritance rights, partner benefits, etc.)

Developed in cooperation with other national and local GLBT organizations, HRC’s Town Hall – Our Families will provide the most authoritative information, community support and expert advice on the broad range of topics that affect our families.
Co-Presenter: UCLA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Campus Resource Center.
